Genesis GV80 Gets Value Boost With Return of Four-Cylinder Option

The 2026 Genesis GV80 arrives in Australia with a notable price reduction and the welcome return of a more affordable four-cylinder engine. Starting at $120,000 plus on-road costs, the redesigned base model undercuts its predecessor by a substantial $10,000.

While Australians previously had the option of choosing rear-wheel drive for this base 2.5T turbocharged four-cylinder, it is now exclusively available with all-wheel drive. Despite generating lower outputs than the standard 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 (224kW/422Nm versus 279kW/530Nm), the 2.5T boasts improved fuel efficiency at 10.4L/100km compared to the V6’s 11.9L/100km. Genesis notes this engine meets Euro 5 emissions standards and requires premium unleaded petrol (95 octane).

Genesis notably dropped the 2.5T option for MY24, despite it accounting for roughly a quarter of GV80 sales. At the time, Genesis Australia CEO suggested the new GV80 Coupe would fill the gap, aiming to capture 30% of overall large luxury SUV sales.

Topping the range are the newly introduced GV80 Black and GV80 Coupe Black models, exclusively based on the V6-powered 3.5T Signature trim. Prices for these variants see a moderate increase of $1500-$2000 compared to their standard Signature counterparts.

The “Black Pack” editions feature exclusive dark-themed accents throughout the interior and exterior. These include black 22-inch wheels, brake calipers, and a darkened Genesis front emblem and tailgate lettering. The vehicles also boast eco-friendly touches like leather upholstery and door trims dyed using recycled carbon black extracted from waste tires.

Further enhancements for MY26 include the introduction of Digital Key 2.0, a first for Genesis Australia. This advanced feature utilizes NFC and UWB technology to allow owners to lock, unlock doors, or start the engine remotely via compatible smartphones or smartwatches. Digital Key 2.0 offers greater flexibility with storage on one device and sharing capabilities with up to 15 other devices. Importantly, it functions without needing a mobile network signal and remains operational even if the smartphone battery is depleted.

Genesis continues to back its vehicles with a comprehensive five-year, unlimited-kilometre factory warranty, inclusive of five years or 75,000km worth of complimentary scheduled servicing. Additionally, customers benefit from ten years of complimentary 24-hour roadside assistance.

The GV80 retains the option for a six-seat interior on the 3.5T Signature model, while the previous Rear Seat Entertainment Package is no longer available. Matte paint remains an optional extra, costing $2000.
