The R2 will be available in single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, with power outputs ranging from 350 to 656 horsepower. Acceleration times vary: the base model hits 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, while the high-performance variant can do it in just 3.6 seconds. Towing capacity reaches 4,400 pounds with the optional tow package.
Despite the R2’s off-road-ready design, it lacks the advanced terrain management systems found in the R1S. For serious overlanding, the larger model remains the better choice.

Rivian is streamlining the R2’s options to maximize value. The Standard trim, with its rear-wheel-drive setup, is the sweet spot for most buyers. It delivers a maximum range of 345 miles and includes essential features like heated seats and power-adjustable front seats. More powerful dual-motor variants are also available, but the Standard Long Range model offers the best balance of price and performance.
Interior and Technology
The R2’s cabin prioritizes space and usability. Rear passenger room rivals competitors like the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the cargo area offers 28.7 cubic feet of storage behind the second row. The centerpiece is a 15.6-inch touchscreen that controls most vehicle functions. Notably, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported. The R2 comes standard with automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. An optional Autonomy+ system provides hands-free driving capabilities for an additional $2,500 upfront or $49.99 per month.
Warranty and Maintenance
Rivian offers a comprehensive warranty package: five years or 60,000 miles bumper-to-bumper, and eight years or 175,000 miles for the battery and drivetrain. However, complimentary maintenance is not included.
