Geely Haoyue L Gets Refreshed: New Engine, Seating Options, and Competitive Pricing

12

Geely has launched an updated version of its Haoyue L SUV in China, aiming to capture a larger share of the highly competitive 10,000–15,000 USD family vehicle market. The refresh introduces a more affordable 1.5T engine option alongside exterior and interior revisions, while also expanding seating configurations to appeal to diverse family needs.

Key Updates: Engine and Pricing

The Haoyue L now features a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 133 kW (178 hp) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque, positioned below the existing 2.0T option. This new engine allows Geely to offer the SUV at a lower starting price: between 89,900 to 119,900 yuan (approximately $12,690 to $16,930 USD) during the promotional launch period. Standard pricing will range from 99,900 to 129,900 yuan ($14,120 to $18,330 USD).

The move reflects the ongoing price wars in the Chinese automotive sector, where manufacturers aggressively compete on affordability. Lower entry prices and flexible seating are critical factors for family buyers in this segment.

Design and Interior Improvements

Exterior updates include a revised polygonal grille, a more aggressive front bumper with larger vents, and Geely’s signature vertical grille texture. The vehicle retains its dimensions (4865 mm length, 1910 mm width, 1770 mm height, 2825 mm wheelbase), with higher trims offering 20-inch wheels.

Inside, the Haoyue L boasts a family-friendly layout with soft-touch materials and a large 14.6-inch central touchscreen. The Flyme Auto infotainment system provides smartphone integration and online navigation. Top-end versions gain Level 2 driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, collision warnings, lane-keeping assist, and a 540-degree camera with an under-car view.

Versatile Seating Configurations

A major highlight of the update is the expanded seating options: five, six, or seven seats. The six-seat configuration offers captain’s chairs in the second row with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The optional seven-seat layout provides increased cargo space (2050 liters) when the third row is folded flat. This flexibility is essential for families with varying passenger and storage needs.

Performance and Suspension

Both the 1.5T and 2.0T engines are paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive. The 2.0T variant produces 160 kW (214 hp) and 325 Nm (239 lb-ft) of torque. Suspension remains a MacPherson front setup combined with a multi-link rear system.

The Geely Haoyue L refresh demonstrates the company’s commitment to adapting to market demands by offering a more competitive price point and a wider range of features tailored to family buyers in China.
