The Geely Galaxy Battleship 700 is a new, aggressively designed 4×4 aiming directly at established icons like the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser. Unveiled as a concept in 2025, the production version remains strikingly similar, drawing heavily from the aesthetics of existing off-road vehicles while integrating cutting-edge technology.
Design & Inspiration
The Battleship’s design is intentionally reminiscent of classic 4x4s, featuring a squared-off silhouette, robust bumpers, and tall wheel arches. Geely’s design chief, Flavien Dachet, acknowledges the inspiration from vehicles like the Defender, Mercedes G-Wagen, and Ford Bronco, but notes that this is common for Chinese brands lacking established off-road heritage.
“There was, of course, some inspiration [from iconic 4x4s]. But if you look at classic off-roaders, they always follow the same recipe.”
The design prioritizes a muscular but approachable appearance, avoiding excessive aggression while maintaining a powerful presence. Even the daytime running lights borrow cues from modern Defenders, though Dachet also cites inspiration from traditional Chinese dragon imagery.
Technology & Powertrain
Beyond its familiar exterior, the Battleship distinguishes itself with a high-performance, tri-motor plug-in hybrid powertrain. This setup could deliver over 1,381 horsepower, surpassing the Defender OCTA by a significant margin. The vehicle will leverage Geely’s SEA platform, already used in models from Lotus and Zeekr, offering rapid charging capabilities and potential for over 200 miles of all-electric range.
The Battleship also incorporates AI technology to optimize powertrain operation based on terrain, dynamically switching between electric, range-extender, and hybrid modes. Additional advanced features such as steer-by-wire, brake-by-wire, and four-wheel steering are also expected.
Testing & Market Entry
Geely has rigorously tested the Battleship in extreme environments, including the harsh conditions of northern Sweden and the dunes of China. Prototypes have demonstrated exceptional handling in challenging terrain, with a wading depth comparable to the Defender 110.
The Battleship is confirmed for a UK release in 2028, though the final name may differ. Geely views this model as the first in a potential lineup of off-road vehicles, with future development contingent on market reception.
The Geely Galaxy Battleship 700 represents a bold move by the Chinese automaker to directly challenge established leaders in the off-road segment, blending familiar design cues with cutting-edge technology and a high-performance powertrain.
