The popular Porsche-focused car show, Air|Water, is coming back to the OC Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California, on April 25th. This event, established by the team behind the well-known Luftgekühlt, has evolved into its own distinct gathering for Porsche enthusiasts.
Expanding Beyond Air-Cooled Tradition
Unlike its predecessor, Air|Water welcomes Porsches from all eras – not just the classic air-cooled models. This shift allows a broader range of vehicles and technologies to be showcased, including newer cars and modern innovations. According to founder Patrick Long, the expansion was driven by a desire to include the stories of Porsche’s later years, from 1999 onwards, which Luftgekühlt’s vintage focus didn’t cover.
A Growing Event with New Features
This year marks the fifth installment of Air|Water and the third time it’s been held in Costa Mesa. The event has grown to include features like live Porsche auctions and an exhibitor hall trade show, offering a more comprehensive experience for attendees. Long describes the event as a way to demystify the Porsche world and create an accessible annual meeting point for fans.
Spotlight on Iconic Vehicles
The show often features special vehicles, as evidenced by Long’s mention of the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3R in the iconic Grello livery, driven by Jorg Bergmeister. The team hopes to showcase the Porsche GT1 in 2026 – a rare race and limited road car representing the transition from air to water-cooled engines.
Future Expansion
The Air|Water team isn’t stopping at car shows. Long hints at potential track-based events in the future, building on the success of recent events like the one in Tokyo. The event’s founders are clearly thinking long-term about expanding the Air|Water experience.
For those in the Costa Mesa area, Air|Water on April 25th promises a full day of Porsche culture. Tickets and further details can be found on the event’s website.
Air|Water has quickly become a must-attend event for Porsche fans, offering a unique blend of history, innovation, and community. The event’s growth and adaptability suggest it will remain a key fixture in the Porsche calendar for years to come.
